There is a certain amount of that in the parts of the younger crowd here too, but only some of them and they are the theatrical kind who enjoy drama, anyway.
I think the scene here is the way it is in part because there's a very wide age span of active people in it - not at all limited to people in their late teens and early twenties. Many of the regulars are over thirty, some over forty, people with regular lives, several of them with spouses and kids too, who maintain a passion for the music and still identify with the culture. Many of us have known one another, been acquainted or at least seen one another in clubs and on live shows for ten years or more, so there's a great familiarity and the younger ones become part of it, too. The metal scene seems to be similar in that respect.
