Back in Stockholm again. We've had a really good couple of weeks, with decent weather. I've collected a lot of bones this year, much more than we usually find up there, and we came across not one, but two fairly recent reindeer cadavers, which is rare. I've also brought home some more old stuff from the cabin; grandma's sheep fur coat from the war years, with pronounced early 40's shoulders and a checked cotton lining that hints at fabric shortage and rations, a couple of handsome grey, black and red wool blankets, a couple of small things out of the medicine drawer for a nurse costume and an ancient, stained grey painting coat of grandpa's.

I need a water resistant coat or jacket for spring, summer and autumn wear that looks nice, as opposed to the very functional, but somewhat shabby and definitely too large army rain coat I usually wear, and I thought I'd pick up some ideas for the thing out of all the old 50's weeklies that we keep in the cabin. Not so; 50's isn't my favourite decade for fashion, it's a little too twee and artificial even for my very overdone taste, and I didn't come up with anything useful at all until I found that painter's coat stuffed in at the back of the closet. It's very old, not even close to my size and stained and worn beyond all washing and repair, but it is absolutely beautiful - cut, details, fabric, everything. If the fabric was salvageable I'd take it apart and re-use it, but it isn't, so I'll just rip off the basic cut and detailing, try to find a similar fabric and adapt it to my needs. Will show photos of it later.
