The Austro-Hungarian infantry originally wore it on their collars. There are both metal and fabric versions, like this:

Have also seen a version with a wreath of oak leaves around it. Quite nice, and not politically sensitive in the least. It remains about the only item in my military wardrobe I haven't been hassled over yet.
