...it's time for Die Walküre. I'm ill, but I would not miss it for the world - will stuff myself with ibuprofen and bromhexin beforehand and bring lots of cough drops.

People don't dress up much for the opera in this part of the world, but I'm planning on wearing a late 30's evening jacket in black wool crepe with all-over black beading over a plain black dress in the same fabric, from the same era. Warm and cozy, and I love that jacket - it's an incredibly versatile garment,  very easy to wear and still very festive.

Allright, I will. :) The Stockholm opera is pretty boring as opera houses go, though, a big brown 1880's building with the usual gold cherubs and red velvet interior. The graphics for the Ring cycle are quite nice, though - the four opera names, Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung in white Breitkopf Fraktur on black background. They have a huge backdrop with it hanging in front of the red curtain before the show, I took a couple of cellphone photos of that.

Sounds like a lovely time & dressing up would be 1/2 the fun!
I have never been to the Opera but, really want to go one day.
I am easily moved to tears sometimes by music (don't laugh ;-) so I think I would actually have a great time!

I'm very, very sappy, too, so I can relate. It bypasses my intellect completely and goes straight for the tear ducts, so I'm rather embarrassed by it - I sometimes cry even at films and shows that I think are total crap. :)
